Buoys and floats

Plastics in the dredging industry: Buoys and floats

Every year at Maropol we use 150 tons of polyurethane in and on our products. A large part of this is used for producing buoys and floats for the dredging industry.

Polyurethane is ideal for giving objects and structures a seamless, impermeable finish. Polyurethane can be used and processed both indoors and outdoors, and it is both low maintenance and durable. Polyurethane protects your buoys and floats with its properties that make them wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant and longer lasting in a way that cannot be achieved with any other coating.

We use huge lathes on which we apply foam to a core element create, until the required dimensions have been reached (up to 14 metres long with a diameter of up to 4 metres). Then the polyurethane is added in the desired colour. The end result is a durable product with unique properties. The flexible character of the polyurethane layer around the foam core means the product is better able to withstand collisions and the natural elements, your floating equipment is more resistant to damage and consequently your project is less susceptible to delays.

All coupled ball buoys, measurement buoys, depth buoys and floats are tailor-made by us. We also have various buoys and floats in stock. We have a large number of second-hand buoys in our database. Customers such as Boskalis, Heerema, Van Oord, Jan de Nul, Allseas, DEME and Dunlop choose Maropol’s products!
